Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know San Diego is a huge tourist destination because of the weather, beaches, and major city events. So if you’re planning an important event like your wedding day, it would be wise to research what’s going on in the city during your wedding weekend. That way your guests, either local or from out-of-town, know what to expect and can plan ahead for travel arrangements. Here are some of the big ticket items to be aware of in San Diego:
January:
• Carlsbad San Diego Marathon and Half-Marathon: The second-oldest marathon on the West Coast.

March:
• Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp Quarter: One of the biggest Fat Tuesday celebrations on the West Coast.

April:
• Ford California Half-Ironman Triathlon: A popular triathlon that goes through Camp Pendleton and finishes in Oceanside.

June:
• Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon: A 26.2-mile race and block party all in one, with live music and cheer squads along the race route and ending with a rad post-race party and headliner concert.

June–July:
• San Diego County Fair: The annual fair features lots of outlandish (a.k.a. fried) foods, garden shows, livestock tents and a midway complete with carnival rides and concerts held throughout the beautiful Del Mar Fairgrounds in oceanfront Del Mar.

July:
• Fourth of July Celebrations: Fireworks, festivals and patriotic parades are held in numerous neighborhoods throughout San Diego County.
• Annual World Championship Over-the-Line Tournament: A San Diego original, this boisterous, fast-paced beach softball event is played at Fiesta Island on Mission Bay.
• San Diego LGBT Pride Parade, Rally and Festival: One of the largest LGBT events on the West Coast, San Diego LGBT Pride sponsors a weekend of festivities including a large parade through Hillcrest and two-day festival with major headlining acts in Balboa Park.
• Comic-Con International: Hands down, the largest comics and pop culture event in the United States.

August:
• Hillcrest Cityfest 2011: Lovingly called “Mini-Pride” by locals, CityFest features a variety of arts, crafts, food and entertainment at this popular annual street festival along Fifth Avenue in the neighborhood of Hillcrest.

December:
• December Nights: This celebration of the holiday season is the largest free community festival in San Diego, featuring foods and crafts from around the world, music and events at Balboa Park’s diverse museums.

This is but a scratch of the exciting sites and attractions San Diego has to offer year round. After all there is a reason San Diego is one of the hottest wedding destinations  on the West Coast!
