A wedding reception at MoPA catered by the Abbey Catering for wedding guests.

The Museum of Photographic Arts, located in the heart of Balboa Park in San Diego, is a favorite venue to house a wedding reception for couples such as Kristie and Jarold.  With room enough to hold about 200 guests and access to an open patio for cocktails before dinner, guests get private access to the many beautiful exhibits that pass through this historical building.  There is also access to a photo booth for fun pictures with the guests and a widescreen projector to share photos and other fun life experiences.  The Museum is one of many preferred venues of the Abbey Catering.  This couple and their guests were treated to a lovely cocktail hour with drinks while servers walked around with trays of delicious appetizers consisting of sauteed chicken skewers, hummus on fresh pita bread, coconut shrimp and the favorite ahi on cucumber slices.  Then followed dinner and dancing with a DJ provided as part of their wedding package selected through the Abbey.  As the sun set over the park, the guests completed their memorable experience as Kristie and Jarold departed to begin their honeymoon as a couple now bound as one.

A birthday is always a wonderful reason to celebrate. Family and friends joined us on this special occasion for Mr. Drew’s… 40’th birthday. This celebration took place in a stylish and beautiful private residence in Mission Hills with a stunning view.

The Abbey catering served the most amazing & signature hor dourves, on silver platters. Just to name few, Ahi’ Poke’ served on cucumber rounds, Beef Sliders, miniature Beef Wellington Bites and more were a hit that won’t be forgotten for a long time, all 75 guests raved about the food and service. Spectacular drinks mixed by Best Beverage Company kept the party going and champagne pouring. Even on a rainy day, The Abbey was able to put together a spectacular event that pleased all!   We wish Drew many happy years and celebrations to come and we are grateful for making us a part of day, it was nothing short of perfection.

Tears of Joy

Posted by: Chris Campbell

March 7th, 2011 >> Abbey Vendors, Events, Other, Preferred Vendors, Trends, Weddings

Guests traveled far and wide to share this special union with there loved ones. It was a beautiful day at the La Jolla Women’s Club. Tears of joy were brought to all when George and Hannah said I do, under the warm California sun and palm trees. Not only in front of 200 guests but also, the one of a kind, Rev. Christopher Tuttle.
Many of the guests found it ironic that the color scheme was quit patriotic, not unlike George’s occupation, NYPD. Breath taking hues of red and ivory were found thought the days entirety, thanks to Specialty Linens provided by The Abbey and Art Quest Florist. In addition, every moment captured by The Abbeys videographer Blake and photographer Katie Sigle, but made even more stunning with the help of our hair and makeup artist Leland. In order for this new and happy couple to go on a exotic Maui honeymoon, offered by The Abbey, we incorporated seven different options including, last but not least, the talented DJ randy, and divine cake designed by Flower Power Cake Co.
We received rave reviews, not only, about The Abbey Catering but also the charming grooms cake, designed in a police cruisers likeliness, provided by the Wicked Goodies Bakery.
We wish the newlyweds, from the bottom of our hearts, a long life together filled with happiness, health and eternal love.

Spanish-inspired Darlington House in sunny La Jolla was the destination for this out-of-the-ordinary wedding. About 50 guests witnessed Erika & Nigel’s exchange of vows and saying “I do”. After the ceremony in which there was not a single dry eye, the night of miraculous moments started. The backdrop for our digital camera docking station provided by the client, along with funny and charming props, was a hit and left no one unentertained. Love birds as salt and pepper shakers, cake topper, candy bar décor and more were a lovely touch, and gave event playful feel of enchantment, love and unity. For the reception our bride decided to get a beautifully decorated tent in the rose garden. String lights, candles, ivory satin linens for the guest tables and unique rosette ivory linens for the sweetheart table and cake and white Hydrangea flowers in elegant silver urns all  gave the whole event a feeling of class, purity and cleanness. May the love and life of this couple be joyful, divine and full of adventures. Happy Honeymooning!

Angelina and Nathan’s day in Coronado

Posted by: Chris Campbell

September 30th, 2010 >> Preferred Vendors, Preferred Venues

Our day began with an entrance to the ceremony by our beautiful bride in an exquisite dress. Nathan received her in a gentlemanly fashion as she glided down the isle, a stunning vision. Cocktail hour followed with a sumptuous offering of the Abbey’s best appetizers . The interior reception was crafted by florist and friend Heather under the watchful eye of our bride’s mom Julie, and the room looked absolutely magnificent from centerpiece to sweetheart table. With another stunning creation by Flour Power, our guests were destined for sweet contentment. A special performance by Jesse Davis gave way to the musical stylings of DJ Randy as he revved up the crowd, ensuring fantastic energy to match the excitement of Angelina’s guests. A picture of perfection, Angelina and Nathan were whisked away in the Abbey limo to their retreat at the Hotel Del Coronado. Happy honeymooning and best wishes, Robert.

What a spectacular day at Marina Village to celebrate Kimberly and Tim’s wedding. A beautiful ceremony on the South Lawn gave way to a reception to remember at the Sunset Room. Kim was radiant in her gown and glided into the room with a dashing Tim on her arm to share their love with all in attendance. Our Abbey team led by  Brandon handled every need to ensure the happiness of our guests. Fantastic food and a flurry of cocktails flowed freely to charge everybody up for a night of celebration . Kim’s mom Cari delivered a sweetly sentimental toast that touched everyone present. With big shoes to fill Jim, Kim’s dad, came next and entertained the guests and got them in the mood for a fun night capped with the musical stylings of DJ Randy’s own Blake Lindquist. A beautiful night to remember and a true pleasure to be a part of. Best wishes Kimberly and Tim!

A floral archway frames the ocean view

Another venue that we hold in very high regard is the beautiful Ocean View Villas in Point Loma. This was where our sea inspired ceremony and reception took place on Saturday, August 28th. The bride and groom rented out the entire villa with views overlooking sunset cliffs and their own luxurious beach. The beautiful flowers with vibrant colors were designed by ArtQuest . DJ Randy kept the dance floor full and the guests were surely entertained by being able to make their own requests all night long! As a part of the Abbey package we also provided beautiful Aqua Dupioni and Champagne crush linens that drew everyone’s attention to the alluring tables. Throughout the entire evening the very trendy Euro-coffee bar was available, serving Cappuccinos, lattes, espressos, hot chocolate, or anything else that the guests’ hearts could desire. The sea inspired cake that was decorated with seashells, corals, and Orchids was designed by Flour Power. Tareq Zaatari, the videographer made sure to capture all of the wonderful moments and included special comments and messages from all of the 120 guests. The photography done by Narrative Images will be sure to provide everlasting memories for many years to come of this astonishing seaside wedding.

Romance in San Diego Botanical Gardens

September 3rd, 2010 >> Abbey Vendors, Preferred Vendors, Preferred Venues, Weddings

Rushing waterfalls, blooming scenery and lush bamboo groves set the scene for the exotic wedding ceremony  at San Diego Botanical Gardens. The bride, groom and their 200 close friends and family got to share this beautiful occasion in a breathtaking setting. Tucked away into corners of the gardens were romantic details; pictures of the happy couple throughout their courtship, a photo printing station so that guests received instant memories of the special day and a sign-in book where they wished the loved-up pair future happiness. The all-inclusive package meant a stress free day for the bride and groom and allow them to focus, enjoy, and relish their special day. This striking jewel-toned themed wedding was highlighted by a gourmet 3 tiered cake from Baby Cakes, classic hairstyles and flawless make-up by Leland, the talented and trained eye of videographer Tareq, skilled creative photographer Deb Shields, and extraordinary flowers by Artquest Florist. Wine from the family vineyard made the day even more memorable and beautifully complimented the Mediterranean styled dinner prepared by highly trained Abbey Catering chefs. Family and friends rounded off the evening dancing under the stars to the sounds of the Matt Yeakley band and DJ Alex Trumbo. Everyone was left aglow with the magic of the evening and memories that will last a lifetime.

New York & Louisiana converged on the rooftop of the La Jolla Cove Suites, to the delight of our happy couple,  Kelly & Patrick.  Reverend Tuttle kicked it off with a sentimental and  joyous ceremony, that gave our couple and  guests a taste of good times to come. Classical guitar styling by artist Miles Moynier filled cocktail hour as everyone was treated to some of the Abbey’s finest appetizers. Led by Abbey Captain, Warren Carlyle, the team was extremely diligent and handled every guest with care and  good humor. Dinner service was fluid and offered a sampling of surf-&-turf with our own Chianti braised Black Angus beef and shrimp skewers to compliment the beach themed La Jolla landmark. DJ Randy delivered another stellar performance, energizing the crowd with an eclectic sampling of songs chosen by our happy couple. The topper to the evening was a delicately crafted creation by San Diego’s own Flourpower!  The cake was gorgeously accompanied by a beautiful bouquet designed by Kelly with our florist Arturo of ArtQuest Florals.  Brides, be sure to check out some of his creations, they are pure magic.  The evening came to a finale with a medley of upbeat songs including a special selection by Kelly’s father and a tribute by Mr. Sinatra. It felt as though I was amongst family that night.  The love for Kelly & Patrick was truly evident in every face present and  I was so pleased to be a part of it all. Enjoy Maui you two-I hope to see you soon!
