The Abbey Saves the Day
Posted by: Chris Campbell
September 16th, 2011 >> Abbey staff, Events, Other, Weddings
Last Thursday Southern California was blanketed in one of the largest blackouts in US History. You wouldn’t necessarily think it’s a big deal even in wedding season and especially on a Thursday. Guess what? We had two couples, eagerly awaiting their weddings on 9-8-2011. Just as the lights went out, the Abbey Team went into action. Ocean View Villas suffered a brief outage until our emergency generator arrived and kicked in. It was able to power the DJ and provide enough juice to get the lights going.
Abbey one, Outage zero!
On to the Coronado Community Center, at reception time it was lights out for millions in San Diego and Coronado Island was not exempt. Fortunately, the Community Center & Abbey Team worked in concert with one another to ensure back-up generators powered the Reception.
Abbey Two, Outage Nothing.
When a situation seems beyond all our control it could have easily been a time when people stood by and just accepted the state of affairs. Brides & Grooms may have been understanding but when you secure the best, expectations must be exceeded.
Congratulations to our Happy Couples & Go Team!
To Wed or not to Wed, that is the Question.

Whether tis nobler in the mind to serenade,
in the ceremony and matriomony of family,
or to braisen oneself against a sea of tradition.
For when it comes to weddings there are choices to be made. Most choose to take their lover’s hand down the isle through a floral wonderland. The venue can change in general; but as you can see, the beauty of the Cuvier Club to the left brings nature’s select beauty into a wedding. The manners of a traditional wedding are usually the same, there is a lavish party planned for months with each detail in perfect harmony, every bit hanging on that perfect moment; until that time when the unity of two lives becomes one–within the surroundings of family and friends, amidst a world of fantastical décor and alive with spiritual sublimity.
There is always another road you can go down and that is toward the city of lights, which can tempt any soul into its seductive and lavish lifestyle; but only as a brief and bright flame. Some do choose to enter the concrete wilderness and wed at whim. They can do so within the company of a resurrected Elvis singing sweet songs of holy matrimony or with strung cans jingling as they coast past a drive through reception; quickly buying themselves a happy meal wedding. For some, this spur of the moment gamble feels genuine in their hearts and with the excitement of a Las Vegas strip some could see why.
Each has their own way and their own path they must take down the isle and life. Both innately bring their own sense of beauty or excitement into the world and each aim to deliver the most amazing time that individual could have. So do you drive through the city of lights or trail down an isle of roses?
So we Ask, Should a Wedding be a Short and Sweet Slice of Serendipity or the Grand and Gorgeous Chorus of Tradition?

The Abbey Catering had the Honor of Representing Equality California at the Hall of Champions on April 30, 2011 for their San Diego Equality Awards Ceremony honoring Equality, Leadership and Justice. At a sit down dinner for 300 guests, that was sponsored by over 30 companies who also supports Equality California, the featured entertainment was Mango and Dango.
The Awards recognized distinguished compatriots who went above and beyond their duties while facing challenges and over coming obstacles. Equality California was founded in 1998, and has helped many individuals throughout its inception and continues to do so in present time. The Abbey Catering was one of the biggest contributors to Equality California and we were proud to represent them at their Awards Banquet with delectable dishes of savory food and scrumptious desserts.

Radiating with splendent colors and the sounds of song birds filling the air, the 26th of March will be held in the minds and hearts of this couple forever. Dressed in glimmering metallic gray, and sun bright yellow, this wedding was designed fit to perfection from the beginning. Two-hundred and forty-five guests attended the beautiful couple’s special day with vows that last forever.
This couple brought an amazing twist to a special day not only for theme but to friends and guests as well!! Working with the deaf community, her wedding was catered with interpreters for the deaf. The wedding ceremony, toast, and dance were catered with interpreters for all guests to love, cherish, and enjoy. It was truly remarkable and left a spot for softness in all guests’ hearts.
Each table had center pieces of three foot vases designed by Artquest Florists. The vases were filled with floating lemons and a beautiful arrangement of yellow, white, and red roses bursting from the top, while full bloom pussy willows wept enchantment over the table. Held at the La Jolla Women’s Club, the reception provided a perfect pinch of elegance and spring class!
Flower arrangements vary in size, shape and color but each has its own aura of elegance and beauty. Click ahead and share you ideas for flower arrangements and event designs….

An awards banquet put together to recognize leaders and employees of Prudential Real Estate who demonstrated excellence in supporting clients, annual sales, and hit the highest of achievements in the past year.
The Abbey Catering took this special event to a new level! One of our first events for our new venue Cuvier Club, located in La Jolla, CA, this red carpet event took place on March 31st and was held for the most elite 400 employees for Prudential Real Estate.
We tell no lie when we say there was a red carpet and paparazzi. Dressed to kill like the stars, these 400 guests were dressed to impress and walk the runway like it was theirs for the taking. Once inside, guests were able to wonder about and enjoy delectable food from one of the four tables provided by Abbey Catering. Each station contained, pan seared chicken breast in orange chicken marinade and drizzled with lemon and caper beurre blanc sauce and citrus infused basmati rice with diced seasonal grilled vegetables, and eclectic dessert bites!
Guests loved the brilliance and enthusiasm this event brought, the time and effort gone into this event was noticed and the company was overjoyed.
