The Abbey Team

I just wanted to give a quick run-down of what you can come to expect upon confirming with The Abbey Catering & Event Design Co. -First and foremost you should have had a wonderful experience with your Salesperson and he/she should have made themselves available to you at your convenience with quick and efficient responses to any questions or revisions you might have had via email or phone. -After confirming with 25% deposit and signing of the initial proposal, on or before your wonderful customized Tasting, we continue moving on to the next steps.  Please note that you’re initial proposal “never” ends up being the same as when your wedding/event takes place.  We make sure that two week’s before the event; your correct guest count, rentals, etc. are all accounted for so that you only pay for what you’re expecting, not what you originally agreed upon +/- 12 months before the event itself.  Our Director of Special Events will be contacting you within one week of your confirmation for a complimentary Design Consultation and to discuss any additional needs as necessary. -From there the Abbey Team, will introduce you to your Coordinator and/or Event Captain as your primary contact.  Your Coordinator or Event Captain will be available with unlimited telephone and email correspondence throughout the process and most importantly, be the person there on-site on your event day. Basically, that’s our standard procedure with no compromises made, but it can’t be said enough that you are more than welcome, even encouraged, to contact your Salesperson, Coordinator, or Event Captain with any questions you might have throughout.  We’re certainly all here to ensure that you feel taken care of your expectations are ALWAYS being met.

Seagrove Park

February 8th, 2011 >> Events, Other, Trends, Weddings

There’s only a handful of ceremony venues that have beautiful ocean views in the San Diego area. One in particular that I would like to mention is Seagrove Park in Del Mar. As you can see from the pictures, it’s a perfect backdrop to your wedding ceremony.

Located near the Del Mar Powerhouse, it’s the perfect compliment to their beautiful venue. Although, there are still many wedding couples that decide to have their ceremony at Seagrove Park, and their reception wherever they feel works best. Seagrove Park is within 30 minutes of San Diego and therefore, your reception venue can be any of the multitude of venues located within reason.

I highly recommend doing the valet parking instead of trying to find your own free spots.  The Park and Beach is popular year round so the free parking get’s taken up pretty quickly.  I would encourage you to put a note on your invitations to make sure everything get’s started on time.

With windows that look out onto glistening water and bobbing sailboats, the Marina Villiage on Mission Bay is perhaps the perfect place to say I’ll love you, forever.

The newly wedded couple and their joyous friends and family arrived from the quaint ceremony on the west-facing lawn to the Sunset Room at Marina Villiage in hopes of quenching their thirst and satisfying their belly-rumbling appetites.  They were greeted with a full bar and a bartender who could sling drinks with the best of them!  As guest mingled and milled, The Abbey’s polished servers weaved in and out with trays of mouthwatering appetizers, including coconut shrimp, among others.

When the time came for guests to be seated, long, flowing black curtains were ripped from the ceiling, dramatically revealing the breathtaking tablescapes, each accented by a robust centerpiece provided by Artquest Flowers that included roses, purple tulips, and surprisingly, fresh artichokes!!

Glasses clinked as eager friends and family toasted the new couple and busy servers and chefs prepared for the much anticipated dinner hour.  Senior executive coordinateor, Petr Trebin, gracefully dismissed each table and guests made their way to the chef presented buffet, where they were greeted by a mouth watering dual entree and smiling chefs.

The rest of the night unfolded seamlessly into the traditional garter and bouquet toss, cake cutting and a not-so-conventional dance off!  The beats of DJ Niko spurred vigourous competition as guests young, and young at heart showed off thier dancing skills.

As the final song was played, the new couple held each other close and thought excitedly of things to come.

Dinner on the lawn.

The sun broke early at La Jolla Shores to welcome our happy couple & their guests. The La Jolla Bridge Club is a great space perched just above the beach with a perfect view of the ocean. Guests were greeted to the soulful tin-drum of Pat Burke and a bevy of sumptuous appetizers prepared by Abbey Chef & Founder Zapher Dajani. Lauren was an absolute vision & John very cool & dashing in his tuxedo. Lauren organized a magnificent candy bar which delighted her guests with sweet treats all through the evening. Our Abbey team worked diligently to satisfy every need and accommodate every request. As the evening wound down, I had opportunity to spend some time with Johns groomsmen and Laurens bridesmaids. All lovely and completely happy for our perfect couple. John, Lauren & I spent a few minutes at the close of their day chatting about the day. I have to say they are a wonderful couple & its a true pleasure to know them. Happy Honeymooning!

The start to a wonderful culinary journey.

Love was in the air...and the cake.

On a picturesque day in Del Mar, California, the beaming bride and groom tied the knot at the Del Mar Powerhouse.  The sun glittered over the waves and a cool breeze blew as the two exchanged the vows time has woven into their relationship.

During cocktail hour, guests celebrated the union with a champagne toast and appetizers that included tri-colored bruschetta, mini beef Wellington and chicken satay.   Guests were welcomed into the dining room where they were greeted with the couple’s own take on the traditional pre-set Abbey Signature Salad including leafy greens, caramelized walnuts, fresh strawberries and dressed with a raspberry vinaigrette.

Dinner was a home-style dual presented entree that included panko crusted Tilapia, braised superior Angus beef, truffled cream cheese  garlic mashed potatoes, seasonal veggies and perfectly seasoned risotto to which the guests were hungrily obliged.

The new couple danced the night away and decided on a kiss and a cupcake for dessert.  A perfect end to a wonderful day!

We look forward to providing you with the same exquisite day in the near future by contacting us here.

Joining Hands and Hearts at the Darlington House

This loving couple started their journey of being married to one another at the La Jolla Darlington House on Saturday July 31th. The ceremony and reception were decorated with deep purple and delicate white linens. After the “I Do’s” were said, the night began with a full sit down meal served to all 130 guests. Everyone was very pleased with the efficient and orderly superb service. For dinner we served our highly desired Citrus Marinated Chicken, cooked to perfection and finished in Champagne, fresh herb and light cream sauce. The duel entrée was completed by Black Angus New York Strip rubbed with sea salt, fresh herbs and stuffed with garlic and seasoning carved for each guest according to their temperature liking. The unique colors and ambiance created by the music was a heartwarming experience for both, the special couple and their guests. As guests partied at the end of the night there was a feeling of pure love and joy in the rose garden, where the wedding nuptials had taken place.

As one of The Darlington House’s Preferred Caterers, we can make you wedding spectacular anytime of year.  Contact one of our professional consultants here today!

Valerie & Patrick’s amazing day at La Jolla’s Darlington House

The perfect blend of music played as the radiant bride, in her enchanting dress, as she walked into the Rose Garden of the Darlington House for a reception to remember.  As friends and family were fighting back tears of joy, the bride and groom were greeted by the natural beauty of the blooming roses as well as the amazing arrangements provided by Artquest Floral, an Abbey Preferred Vendor.  As the evening progressed, Valerie and Patrick enjoyed a wonderful meal followed by an exceptional beautiful cake by FlourPower.  When the morsels had all been eaten, it was time to get down and boogie.  And the bride put her fabulous shoes through quite a workout on the dance floor with mix of music from Blake of DJ Randy’s pleasing everyone there.   It truly was the topper to the end of a perfect day in La Jolla.  All of us at The Abbey wish you the best in your new life together.  It has been a sublime pleasure getting to know you both and helping in making your wedding day so perfect.

The Abbey Martini Tree

May 26th, 2010 >> Events, Other, Tablescapes, Weddings

Every event, be it a wedding,  party or fund raiser, wants to be able to leave a lasting impression on it’s guests.  This can be achieved in a variety of unique ways.  One such way is by including the one of a kind,  Abbey Signature Martini Tree.  Holding  99  martini glasses, filled with any kind of beverage, appetizer, or floral piece,  this event enhancer is sure to be talked about.  We were able to utilize this item in a very attractive, eye-catching way at the recent 2010 Art Alive: Culture and Cocktails event. Our Abbey Team, was able to make the tree stand out with many different flowers that tied into the theme of  the evening.  To say that the tree was a conversation piece would be an understatement.   One event goer was heard saying,  “That would be great for our outdoor family reunion”.   Aside from the beauty of this amazing piece, it is extremely versatile as well.  Being able to access it from almost any direction, keeps the flow of guests is smooth and effortless.  I think that this is a feature that would enhance any party and will continue to expand as we utilize it more and more.   If you too would like to have this at your next event, please let us provide you with thoughts, ideas and ways to utilize this incredible event feature.  Just get in touch with us here.

January 29th, 2010 >> Events

On Jan. 16th  2010,  we executed a wonderful event at the Coronado Community Center.  This all-inclusive package came complete with  DJ, photographer, videographer, cake, floral, limo, day of coordinator and cuisine.  We served our most popular and delicious signature dish, Salmon En Croute- fresh Wild Salmon baked in puff pastry with spinach, goat cheese, wild mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes.  Complimented  with cream cheese mashed potatoes. Next was the  Chianti Braised Angus Superior Beef, grilled to perfection .  As with most of the times, we served them  as a dual entrée,  with smaller portions of both,  so everyone could taste these extraordinarily prepared dishes that  The Abbey Catering and Event Design has to offer.
